About:
AlDente is a macOS menu bar utility that prevents your battery from charging past a user-defined percentage, typically set between 80-90%. By capping the charge level, it significantly reduces battery wear and extends the long-term lifespan of your MacBook's battery. It also includes features for calibration, discharge modes, and detailed charging analytics.
Key Features:
  • Set a maximum charge limit (e.g., 80%)
  • Visual menu bar status and charging history
  • Discharge mode to run on battery power while plugged in
  • Calibration wizard for battery health
  • Compatibility with Apple Silicon and Intel Macs
Use Cases:
  • Extending the lifespan of a MacBook battery by avoiding the high-stress 100% charge state
  • Keeping a laptop at optimal charge level for stationary desk use
  • Calibrating the battery sensor for more accurate percentage readings
Alternatives:
  • Battery Health 2 – Built-in macOS feature that optimizes charging but offers less manual control than AlDente.
  • coconutBattery – Focuses on detailed battery monitoring and diagnostics rather than active charge limiting.
