About:
Bareos-client is the backup daemon component for the Bareos (Backup Archiving Recovery Open Sourced) system. It runs on client machines to efficiently backup files, databases, and system states to a central backup server. It supports incremental backups, encryption, and compression, ensuring secure and efficient data protection.
|
Key Features:
- Client-side incremental backups with deduplication
- Strong encryption and compression support
- Centralized management via Bareos Director
- Support for Linux, Unix, and Windows clients
|
Use Cases:
- Enterprise-grade server backups for Linux/Unix systems
- Secure off-site data replication and disaster recovery
|
Alternatives:
-
bacula
– Bareos is a community fork of Bacula with more frequent updates and open governance
-
restic
– Restic is simpler and agentless but lacks Bareos' centralized enterprise management features
-
borgbackup
– Borg offers excellent deduplication but is primarily focused on local/archival storage rather than client-server architecture
