About:
Amazon Corretto 8 is a production-ready distribution of OpenJDK 8 Long-Term Support (LTS). It includes performance enhancements and security patches not found in standard OpenJDK builds. This package ensures a stable, free, and commercially supported runtime for legacy Java applications on macOS.
Key Features:
  • Long-Term Support (LTS) with security updates
  • Performance improvements over standard OpenJDK
  • Free to use under the GPL with Classpath Exception
  • Production-ready stability backed by Amazon
Use Cases:
  • Running legacy Java 8 applications in production
  • Developing software requiring specific JDK 8 features
  • Ensuring security compliance for older Java stacks
Alternatives:
  • openjdk@8 – Standard open source build; Corretto includes additional performance patches and long-term commercial support.
  • temurin – Eclipse Adoptium's free LTS builds; both are excellent choices, though Corretto is Amazon-specific.
