About:
FontGoggles is a specialized font viewer and inspection tool for macOS that supports a wide range of font formats including OpenType, TrueType, Variable Fonts, and Color Fonts. It allows developers and designers to preview, compare, and analyze font files with detailed glyph and metric information. The tool excels at handling variable font axes and provides a streamlined workflow for evaluating font quality before installation.
|
Key Features:
- Support for variable fonts with interactive axis manipulation
- Advanced glyph inspection with Unicode and OpenType feature details
- Side-by-side font comparison mode
- No installation required - works directly from font files
- Real-time rendering of color and variable fonts
|
Use Cases:
- Evaluating variable font designs across different weight and width axes
- Comparing multiple font families for design consistency
- Inspecting glyph details and OpenType features before commercial licensing
|
Alternatives:
-
Font Book
– macOS native app with basic preview but lacks advanced inspection features
-
RightFont
– Font manager with preview capabilities but focuses more on organization than deep inspection
-
FontForge
– Font editor with preview but much heavier and complex for simple viewing needs
