About:
Gator is a command-line interface utility designed for testing and validating Open Policy Agent (OPA) Gatekeeper constraints and ConstraintTemplates. It allows developers to evaluate Rego policies against sample Kubernetes object configurations locally before deploying them to a cluster. This enables faster iteration and catches policy violations early in the development lifecycle.
|
Key Features:
- Test Gatekeeper constraints locally without a Kubernetes cluster
- Validate Rego policies against sample Kubernetes manifests
- Support for ConstraintTemplates and custom constraints
- Fast feedback loop for policy development
|
Use Cases:
- Unit testing OPA Gatekeeper policies during development
- Validating policy changes before cluster deployment
- CI/CD pipeline integration for policy compliance checks
|
Alternatives:
-
kubeval
– Validates Kubernetes manifests against schemas, but lacks OPA/Gatekeeper policy evaluation
-
conftest
– General policy testing tool using Rego, but not specifically designed for Gatekeeper constraints
