About:
GrandPerspective is a graphical application that visualizes disk usage by mapping files and folders to a treemap, where the size of each rectangle corresponds to the amount of disk space it occupies. This allows users to quickly identify large files and directories that are consuming the most space. It provides an intuitive way to analyze storage without relying on command-line tools.
|
Key Features:
- Interactive treemap visualization of file system usage
- Ability to scan specific folders or entire drives
- Filtering options to exclude hidden files or specific types
- Dual-pane view to compare directory structures
- Quick navigation to reveal files in Finder
|
Use Cases:
- Identifying large files and folders consuming excessive disk space
- Cleaning up storage by visualizing what can be deleted or moved
|
Alternatives:
-
DaisyDisk
– Commercial alternative with a more polished UI and real-time scanning
-
ncdu
– Terminal-based disk analyzer, lightweight but lacks graphical visualization
