About:
Links is a text-based web browser designed for the terminal, offering a robust browsing experience without a graphical user interface. It renders HTML with support for tables, frames, and menus, making it highly functional for viewing modern web content in a console environment. It operates in both standard and graphics modes, providing flexibility for various system setups.
Key Features:
  • Renders tables and frames correctly in text mode
  • Supports both HTTP and HTTPS protocols
  • Runs in both text and graphics ( framebuffer ) modes
  • Low resource usage suitable for servers and older hardware
Use Cases:
  • Browsing the web from headless servers or via SSH
  • Accessing documentation on systems without a GUI
  • Automating web interactions or data retrieval in scripts
Alternatives:
  • lynx – Links offers better rendering of tables and frames compared to the more basic Lynx.
  • w3m – Similar functionality, but Links often provides better performance and rendering speed.
