About:
LocalXpose is a secure reverse proxy tool that creates a tunnel from the internet to your local development environment. It allows you to share local web services, APIs, and webhooks with clients or collaborators without deploying to a staging server. It supports multiple protocols including HTTP, TCP, and TLS, making it versatile for various development and testing scenarios.
|
Key Features:
- Supports HTTP, TCP, and TLS protocols
- Custom subdomains and custom domains
- Password protection for shared tunnels
- Request inspection and replay functionality
- Native macOS, Linux, and Windows support
|
Use Cases:
- Testing webhooks from third-party services (Stripe, GitHub, Slack) on your local machine
- Sharing a local development web server with clients for real-time feedback
- Exposing local databases or APIs for temporary remote access
|
Alternatives:
-
ngrok
– ngrok is the industry standard with more features but stricter rate limits on the free tier
-
cloudflared
– Cloudflare's tunnel solution, excellent for production use but requires a Cloudflare account
-
localtunnel
– Open-source alternative, simpler setup but fewer advanced features and security options
