About:
Mabel is a modern BitTorrent client designed specifically for the terminal, offering a rich, interactive user interface. It provides real-time monitoring of download and upload speeds, peer connections, and torrent progress. The tool's main value proposition is delivering a full-featured torrenting experience without requiring a graphical desktop environment.
Key Features:
  • Interactive terminal UI with real-time stats
  • Supports adding torrents via magnet links or files
  • Manages multiple torrents simultaneously
  • Configurable keybindings and themes
Use Cases:
  • Managing torrents on a headless server or remote machine via SSH
  • Lightweight torrenting on minimal Linux installations
  • Users who prefer keyboard-driven workflows and terminal aesthetics
Alternatives:
  • rtorrent – rtorrent is a highly stable, older client with a more terse, less interactive UI, while Mabel offers a more modern and visually intuitive experience.
  • transmission-cli – Transmission is primarily a background daemon with a separate CLI; Mabel integrates the full UI directly into the terminal.
