About:
Mac Media Key Forwarder is a lightweight utility that intercepts and forwards media key commands (play/pause, next, previous) to Spotify or iTunes. It resolves the common issue where macOS system-level media controls do not properly interact with these specific applications. This ensures reliable media control from keyboards, headphones, or Touch Bar inputs.
Key Features:
  • Supports both Spotify and iTunes
  • Handles Play/Pause, Next, and Previous keys
  • Runs unobtrusively in the menu bar
  • Lightweight and low resource usage
Use Cases:
  • Controlling Spotify playback when system media controls fail
  • Using hardware media keys with older iTunes versions
  • Fixing media key conflicts on non-Apple Music setups
Alternatives:
  • Spotify Media Keys – Native macOS integration, but limited to Spotify only
  • BetterTouchTool – Broader automation tool that can map keys but is heavier
