About:
Mdzk transforms a folder of Markdown files into a navigable, searchable Zettelkasten knowledge base using the mdBook rendering engine. It automatically generates bidirectional links and a graph structure from simple Markdown references, creating a connected web of ideas. This tool is ideal for researchers, writers, and developers who want to maintain a personal knowledge base without complex databases or proprietary formats.
Key Features:
  • Automatic bidirectional link generation and backlink display
  • Graph visualization of note connections
  • Full-text search functionality
  • Local-first and file-based (uses standard Markdown files)
  • Fast static site generation via mdBook
Use Cases:
  • Building a personal knowledge management (PKM) system
  • Creating technical documentation with interconnected concepts
  • Maintaining a research paper or thesis knowledge base
  • Developing a developer wiki or internal documentation
Alternatives:
  • Obsidian – Mdzk is open-source, command-line based, and generates static sites, whereas Obsidian is a GUI application with real-time preview and proprietary sync.
  • Logseq – Mdzk focuses on static site generation and standard Markdown, while Logseq uses an outliner format and requires a running instance for full functionality.
