About:
Mp3blaster is a text-based (ncurses) MP3 player and playlist manager designed for Unix-like systems. It provides a dual-pane interface for easy navigation and playlist management directly in the terminal. Its primary value is offering a lightweight, keyboard-driven audio solution that consumes minimal system resources.
Key Features:
  • Text-based ncurses interface for terminal usage
  • Dual-pane file browser and playlist management
  • Support for MP3 and WAV file formats
  • Minimal resource footprint
Use Cases:
  • Managing and playing music collections on headless servers
  • Using audio playback on low-specification or legacy hardware
  • Remote audio management via SSH sessions
Alternatives:
  • mpv – mpv is a more modern, versatile media player that supports audio and video, but Mp3blaster offers a more dedicated, simple playlist interface for audio-only needs.
  • cmus – cmus is a feature-rich text-based music player with broader format support and library management, whereas Mp3blaster focuses on simplicity and a file-browser approach.
