About:
Mpage is a command-line utility designed to consolidate multiple pages of text into a single physical page. It achieves this by reducing the point size and arranging the logical pages in a grid layout on one sheet. This functionality is particularly valuable for reducing paper consumption during the review of source code, logs, or lengthy documents.
Key Features:
  • Multi-page layout on single sheets
  • Adjustable column and row counts
  • Header and footer generation with filename and page numbers
  • Support for various input text encodings
Use Cases:
  • Printing program source code listings
  • Reviewing system logs or data dumps
  • Archiving documents to save physical space
Alternatives:
  • enscript – Enscript is a more versatile text-to-PostScript converter that includes Mpage-like functionality but with a broader feature set.
  • psutils – Psutils operates on existing PostScript files to manipulate page order and layout, whereas Mpage converts plain text directly.
