This makes it an excellent choice for users who prefer the classic vi interface but need compatibility across different platforms.
Key Features:
  • Portability across UNIX systems
  • Traditional vi editing model
  • Modern terminal feature support
  • Lightweight and efficient
Use Cases:
  • Editing configuration files on servers
  • Scripting and programming in terminal
  • Remote system administration
Alternatives:
  • vim – Vim offers more features and extensibility but is larger and more complex
  • nvi – Nvi is another portable vi clone with similar goals but different implementation
  • neovim – Neovim is a modern fork of Vim with async capabilities and Lua scripting
