About:
phpMyAdmin is a free and open-source web-based tool written in PHP, designed to handle the administration of MySQL and MariaDB over the internet. It provides a user-friendly interface to perform a wide range of database operations, including managing databases, tables, users, and permissions. Its primary value is offering a comprehensive graphical alternative to command-line clients for database management.
Key Features:
  • Intuitive web interface for managing databases, tables, and users
  • Support for most MySQL and MariaDB features
  • Import data from CSV and SQL files, and export to various formats
  • User management and privilege administration
  • Cross-platform compatibility
Use Cases:
  • Web development and administration of application databases
  • Data analysis and manipulation for non-technical users
  • Remote database management from any web browser
Alternatives:
  • Adminer – Adminer is a single-file PHP script, making it lighter and easier to deploy than phpMyAdmin's multi-file installation.
  • Sequel Pro / TablePlus – These are native desktop applications that offer better performance and a more streamlined UI for local development compared to a web-based tool.
