About:
Pianobar is a lightweight, text-based client for Pandora Internet Radio. It provides a minimalist interface controlled via keyboard shortcuts, allowing users to stream music without the overhead of a graphical interface. This makes it ideal for headless servers, remote terminals, and low-resource environments.

Key Features:

Text-based interface with keyboard controls
Support for station management and song rating
Last.fm scrobbling integration
Eventcmd interface for custom scripting and automation

Use Cases:

Running a music player on a headless Linux server or Raspberry Pi
Streaming music in a terminal environment without leaving the command line
Automating music playback via scripts and event hooks

Alternatives:

mpd + ncmpcpp – MPD is a general music server; ncmpcpp is a client. Requires local files, unlike Pandora streaming.
vlc – VLC supports Pandora via plugins but is a heavy GUI application, not a dedicated CLI tool.
