About:
Pinfo is a console-based viewer for Info documents, which are the standard documentation format for GNU software. It provides a user-friendly, curses-based interface that is more intuitive than the standard 'info' command, featuring easier navigation and better readability. The tool parses Info files directly, offering a streamlined way to read software manuals in a terminal environment.
Key Features:
  • Curses-based user interface with mouse support
  • Intuitive keybindings similar to Lynx web browser
  • Hyperlink navigation between Info nodes
  • Built-in search functionality
Use Cases:
  • Reading GNU software documentation in terminal environments
  • Quick reference for command-line tool usage and options
Alternatives:
  • info – The standard GNU Info reader; Pinfo offers a more user-friendly interface with better default keybindings
  • konqueror – GUI browser that can view Info pages but requires X11; Pinfo works in pure terminal
