About:
Pinwheel is a macOS application designed for creating and testing design systems with a focus on accessibility. It allows developers to visualize UI components under various simulated vision conditions, ensuring compliance with accessibility standards. The tool streamlines the workflow for maintaining consistent and inclusive user interfaces across platforms.
|
Key Features:
- Real-time color blindness simulation (Protanopia, Deuteranopia, Tritanopia)
- Grayscale and low contrast filters for WCAG compliance testing
- Pixel-perfect ruler and grid overlays for layout measurement
- Cross-platform component preview for iOS, Android, and Web
|
Use Cases:
- Validating color contrast and legibility in UI mockups
- Debugging layout spacing and alignment in design systems
- Simulating visual impairments to improve accessibility compliance
|
Alternatives:
-
Stark
– Figma/Sketch plugin focused on accessibility, whereas Pinwheel is a standalone macOS app for system-wide testing.
-
Sim Daltonism
– Free color blindness simulator, but Pinwheel offers more comprehensive design system tools like rulers and grids.
