About:
Plod is a command-line tool for maintaining a daily log of work activities, similar to a digital lab notebook. It allows users to quickly jot down progress, thoughts, and timestamps in a simple text file format. This tool is ideal for developers and technical users who want to keep a chronological record of their work without the overhead of complex project management software.
Key Features:
  • Simple text-based storage for easy version control and portability
  • Command-line interface for fast and distraction-free logging
  • Automatic timestamping of entries
  • Minimalist design with no database dependencies
Use Cases:
  • Tracking daily programming progress and debugging efforts
  • Maintaining a chronological lab notebook for scientific or technical experiments
  • Creating a personal time log for productivity analysis
Alternatives:
  • jrnl – jrnl is a more feature-rich CLI journal with advanced encryption and formatting options, while Plod focuses on extreme simplicity.
  • Day One – Day One is a polished GUI-based journaling app with rich media support, whereas Plod is a text-only, terminal-native tool.
