About:
Ponysay is a command-line utility that renders text messages inside ASCII art of My Little Pony characters. It serves as a whimsical, fandom-themed alternative to the classic Unix cowsay program, providing entertainment and personality to terminal output.
Key Features:
  • Renders messages with colorful My Little Pony ASCII art
  • Compatible with cowsay command-line options
  • Includes dozens of different pony characters
  • Supports custom pony definitions
Use Cases:
  • Personalizing terminal welcome messages and shell prompts
  • Creating fun, shareable terminal output for social media
  • Adding humor to system notifications or cron job outputs
Alternatives:
  • cowsay – The original Unix tool using cows; ponysay is a direct fork with pony characters
  • sl – Displays a train animation; less flexible for custom messages
