About:
RWTS PDFwriter is a macOS print driver that functions as a virtual printer, allowing users to generate PDF files directly from the print dialog of any application. It provides a seamless alternative to the built-in PDF functionality in older macOS versions, offering more control over output settings. This tool is particularly valuable for maintaining legacy workflows that depend on a dedicated PDF printing device.
|
Key Features:
- Acts as a virtual printer in the macOS print dialog
- Directly outputs high-quality PDF files from any printable application
- Integrates with macOS CUPS printing system for system-wide availability
- Provides a simple and reliable solution for legacy macOS versions
|
Use Cases:
- Generating PDFs from older applications that lack native export features
- Creating a standardized PDF printing workflow in an office environment
- Automating document archival by printing directly to a PDF file
|
Alternatives:
-
Built-in macOS PDF Menu
– RWTS PDFwriter provides a dedicated virtual printer, which can be more reliable for specific legacy apps than the standard 'Save as PDF' menu option.
-
CUPS-PDF
– A similar open-source virtual printer for macOS and Linux, often configured via the command line, whereas RWTS PDFwriter offers a more direct installation and setup.
