About:
Sensible Side Buttons is a background macOS application that enables side navigation buttons on third-party mice to function correctly within the Mac ecosystem. It intercepts these button presses and translates them into standard macOS back/forward gestures, ensuring compatibility with apps like Safari, Finder, and Finder. The tool runs unobtrusively, providing seamless navigation without requiring complex driver installations.

Key Features:

Automatic detection and mapping of mouse side buttons to macOS back/forward gestures
Runs quietly in the menu bar without requiring constant user interaction
Broad compatibility with various third-party mouse brands and models
Lightweight system resource usage

Use Cases:

Restoring expected back/forward navigation behavior in web browsers and file managers
Making non-Apple mice fully functional for productivity workflows
Improving navigation efficiency in creative applications that support gestures

Alternatives:

SteerMouse – Paid commercial software with extensive customization options beyond just side buttons
USB Overdrive – Legacy utility that provides button remapping but with a less modern interface
