About:
Spigot is a command-line tool for performing arbitrary-precision arithmetic with streaming output. It calculates exact real numbers by generating digits on-the-fly, avoiding the memory and performance limitations of storing large numbers. This makes it ideal for high-precision computations where results are processed incrementally.
|
Key Features:
- Streaming output of digits as they are computed
- Arbitrary precision arithmetic without memory bloat
- Command-line interface for easy scripting and integration
- Calculates mathematical constants and functions to high precision
|
Use Cases:
- Generating high-precision digits of pi or other constants for research
- Benchmarking arbitrary-precision arithmetic libraries
- Scripting complex mathematical calculations in a pipeline
|
Alternatives:
-
bc
– Standard calculator with arbitrary precision but lacks streaming output
-
calc
– Interactive calculator with extensive functions but different precision model
