About:
Takt is a domain-specific language for writing music, compiling scores into MIDI files. It uses a simple text format inspired by Lisp to define musical structures like notes, rhythms, and instruments. This tool provides a programmatic way to compose music, making it useful for algorithmic composition and automation.
Key Features:
  • Text-based composition using a Lisp-like syntax
  • Compiles scores directly to standard MIDI files
  • Supports algorithmic music generation
  • Lightweight and scriptable
Use Cases:
  • Algorithmic composition and generative art
  • Automating MIDI sequence creation
  • Music programming education
Alternatives:
  • abc2midi – Converts ABC notation to MIDI; Takt uses a more programmatic, code-centric approach.
  • Sonic Pi – A live coding synth environment; Takt focuses on generating static MIDI files via code.
