About:
Threemux is a terminal multiplexer that brings the intuitive, window-management paradigm of the i3 window manager to the command line. It allows users to arrange terminal sessions in a tree-based layout of horizontal and vertical splits. This provides a more structured and keyboard-driven workflow compared to traditional multiplexers like tmux.
Key Features:
  • i3-inspired tree-based layout
  • Vi-like modal keybindings
  • Native shell integration
  • True color and font rendering support
Use Cases:
  • Managing multiple terminal processes in a structured layout
  • Developers seeking a more keyboard-centric workflow
  • Users familiar with i3wm wanting similar efficiency in the terminal
Alternatives:
  • tmux – More established and feature-rich, but uses a different session/window paradigm
  • screen – A classic multiplexer, but lacks modern features and intuitive layout management
  • zellij – A modern alternative with similar goals, but different keybindings and features
