About:
TiMidity++ is a software synthesizer that renders MIDI files into common audio formats like WAV, MP3, or OGG. It can also function as a real-time synthesizer, playing MIDI music through your sound card. Its main value is providing high-quality audio playback without requiring specialized MIDI hardware.

Key Features:

Renders MIDI files to WAV, MP3, OGG, and FLAC
Real-time audio playback via ALSA, OSS, and CoreAudio
Supports SoundFont (SF2) and Gravis Ultrasound (GUS) patch sets
Polyphonic synthesis with configurable polyphony limits

Use Cases:

Converting game music or old MIDI files to modern audio formats
Playing MIDI files in environments without hardware MIDI support
Batch processing MIDI files for archival or distribution

Alternatives:

FluidSynth – FluidSynth is a more modern, library-focused alternative often used by media players, while TiMidity++ is frequently used as a standalone command-line converter.
MuseScore – MuseScore is a full notation editor that can export audio, whereas TiMidity++ is a lightweight tool dedicated solely to MIDI synthesis.
