About:
uBar is a window manager that transforms the macOS Dock into a Windows-style taskbar. It groups application windows into single buttons, provides a start menu for launching apps, and offers a familiar workflow for users transitioning from Windows. This tool enhances productivity by providing a more traditional and efficient window management interface.
Key Features:
  • Windows-style taskbar with grouped window buttons
  • Start menu for application launching and searching
  • System tray integration for menu bar items
  • Customizable appearance and behavior
  • Support for multiple monitors
Use Cases:
  • Migrating from Windows to macOS while retaining familiar workflow
  • Managing many open windows across different applications efficiently
  • Consolidating menu bar items into an accessible system tray
Alternatives:
  • DockView – Adds window previews to the native Dock, less of a full taskbar replacement
  • Plank – Linux-style dock, lacks Windows-specific taskbar features and grouping
