About:
Volume Control is a macOS utility that intercepts standard keyboard volume keys, allowing them to control specific application volumes like Apple Music and Spotify instead of the system-wide output. It provides granular, per-app audio management directly from the keyboard, eliminating the need to manually adjust volume sliders within individual apps or the macOS Control Center.
Key Features:
  • Per-application volume control using standard keyboard keys
  • Seamless integration with Apple Music and Spotify
  • System-wide hotkey interception and remapping
  • Menu bar utility for easy access and configuration
Use Cases:
  • Lowering music volume in Spotify while keeping system alerts and video calls at full volume
  • Quickly muting Apple Music without affecting other audio sources
  • Managing audio levels for specific apps during multitasking
Alternatives:
  • eqMac – eqMac offers system-wide equalization and routing, whereas Volume Control focuses specifically on hotkey-based per-app volume adjustment.
  • BackgroundMusic – BackgroundMusic provides auto-pause and input monitoring features, while Volume Control is a lightweight tool focused on keyboard shortcuts.
