About:
Wallpaper is a command-line interface (CLI) tool designed for managing the desktop wallpaper on macOS. It provides a simple and reliable way to set the desktop wallpaper to a specified image file. The tool's main value proposition is its ease of use and scriptability, allowing users and developers to automate desktop customization tasks.
Key Features:
  • Set wallpaper for all desktop spaces or specific ones
  • Support for common image formats (JPEG, PNG, etc.)
  • Simple, single-executable command-line interface
  • No external dependencies required
Use Cases:
  • Automating desktop setup in development environments or CI/CD pipelines for screenshot generation
  • Creating dynamic wallpapers that change based on time of day or system events using shell scripts
Alternatives:
  • osascript – Using Apple's built-in Open Scripting Architecture (OSA) is a native alternative but can be more verbose and less intuitive than a dedicated CLI tool.
