About:
When is a lightweight, terminal-based personal calendar and reminder tool. It allows users to manage appointments and recurring events using simple plain-text files. Its main value proposition is providing a distraction-free, scriptable scheduling solution without the overhead of graphical interfaces.
Key Features:
  • Terminal-based interface for fast interaction
  • Plain-text data storage for easy version control
  • Supports recurring events and natural date parsing
  • Minimal dependencies and lightweight footprint
Use Cases:
  • Managing personal appointments and reminders in a CLI environment
  • Integrating calendar data into shell scripts or automation workflows
  • Maintaining a portable, privacy-focused schedule
Alternatives:
  • khal – khal is a more feature-rich CLI calendar with CalDAV support, whereas When focuses on simplicity and plain-text storage.
  • cal – The standard Unix cal command only displays a calendar grid, lacking event management capabilities.
