About:
Meek is a pluggable transport for Tor that disguises Tor traffic as regular HTTPS traffic. It uses a separate server (meek-server) to bridge the connection, making it extremely difficult for censors to block based on traffic analysis. This allows users in restrictive network environments to access the Tor network reliably.
Key Features:
  • Resists active probing and traffic analysis
  • Disguises traffic as standard HTTPS
  • Decoupled fronting (uses CDNs like Azure or Google)
  • Works with standard Tor client configuration
Use Cases:
  • Bypassing internet censorship in restrictive regions
  • Protecting Tor usage from detection by network administrators
  • Securing traffic on monitored or hostile networks
Alternatives:
  • obfs4 – obfs4 is faster but uses custom encryption that looks like random noise, whereas Meek mimics legitimate HTTPS traffic.
  • Snowflake – Snowflake uses peer-to-peer WebRTC proxies, while Meek relies on a fixed server infrastructure (often fronted by a CDN).
