About:
Snowflake is a pluggable transport for the Tor network that uses WebRTC to proxy traffic through web browsers. It allows volunteers to run proxy clients in their browsers, helping users bypass censorship by masking Tor traffic as standard web browsing. This provides a scalable and resilient circumvention method against advanced network filtering.
|
Key Features:
- Uses WebRTC for browser-based proxying
- Scalable through volunteer participation
- Resistant to active probing and fingerprinting
- Integrates with Tor's pluggable transport framework
|
Use Cases:
- Bypassing internet censorship in restrictive regions
- Providing censorship-resistant access to Tor
- Volunteering bandwidth to help others access the open internet
|
Alternatives:
-
meek
– Uses domain fronting via cloud providers, requires more infrastructure
-
obfs4
– Uses scrambling and encryption, but is more easily fingerprinted than Snowflake
