About:
Multipass is a lightweight VM manager that launches and manages virtual Ubuntu instances from the command line. It provisions clean, fresh Ubuntu environments on-demand, ideal for development and testing. It uses cloud-init for automatic SSH key setup and container integration.
|
Key Features:
- Fast, on-demand Ubuntu VM provisioning
- Native host integration (files, network, and SSH)
- Container-ready (Docker and LXD support)
- Cross-platform (macOS, Linux, Windows)
|
Use Cases:
- Isolated build environments for CI/CD
- Testing software across different Ubuntu releases
- Learning Kubernetes or Docker without host pollution
|
Alternatives:
-
Multipass
– Canonical's official tool, optimized for quick Ubuntu instances
-
Multipass
– Uses native hypervisors for better performance than generic tools
