About:
WildMidi is a open-source software synthesizer that renders MIDI files to audio streams. It uses Gravis Ultrasound (GUS) compatible sound patches to generate high-quality audio output. The library provides a lightweight and portable solution for adding MIDI playback capabilities to applications.
Key Features:
  • Software synthesizer using GUS patch files
  • Streaming audio support
  • Portable library with a simple API
  • Configuration file support for instrument mapping
Use Cases:
  • Embedding MIDI playback into custom applications or games
  • Converting MIDI files to WAV or other audio formats
  • Providing MIDI support on systems without hardware synthesizers
Alternatives:
  • FluidSynth – FluidSynth is a more feature-rich and complex soundfont-based synthesizer, while WildMidi is lighter and focused specifically on GUS patch formats.
  • Timidity++ – Timidity++ is a mature MIDI-to-WAV converter and player, often with more configuration overhead than WildMidi.
